my heavenly father
My Dad and Mom taught me right from wrong;
But my Father taught me redemption’s song!
My Dad and Mom taught me how to walk, ride and drive;
But my Father taught me how to make my life come alive
Dad and Mom showed me how to do a lot of things;
But my Father showed me what true love really means.
Dad and Mom wanted me to have common sense,
But my Father showed me that I must repent!
And even today, when my Dad
is no longer living in this ol’ world;
My Father is alive and well, shielding me
from all the darts Satan hurls.
For Dad and Mom gave me their very best;
My Father too, sent for me, nothing less.
Even tho some folks still say ‘she has her dad’s features’;
My Father remains, by large, my greatest teacher.
So, though often my eyes flicker with Dad’s resemblance;
It’s my Father that calls me daily unto repentance.
And though my steps are like Mom’s sometimes;
My Father leads me; helps me when I need to climb.
I know I have Dad and Mom’s blood in my veins;
Yet, it’s my Father Who makes me alive; it’s He Who reigns.
So though I love my Dad and Mom with all my heart and soul;
My Father is everything I have become; Heaven is my goal.
