when god uses his hand
When the darkness of torment vexes your soul,
And because of tribulation, you can't see your goal;
That’s when God uses His hand.
When your heart is all aflutter; your feelings are stirred;
Your prayers are going unanswered, your voice not heard;
That’s when God uses His hand.
The tears flow like from a deep, deep river;
Your very being cannot help but quiver;
That’s when God uses His hand.
Idle words you speak, negative criticism you blurt out;
Anger is spoken; you talk of utter disbelief and doubt;
That’s when God uses His hand.
In an effort to gently guide us (if we will follow),
Or when we're running to and fro; in waste and wallow;
That’s when God uses His hand.
Our talk is too loose; our words are wasted air;
Don't think He doesn't hear; don't think He doesn't care;
That’s when God uses His hand.
Like a parent wanting their child to obey,
Maybe just a gentle nudge, when it’s time to pray;
That’s when God uses His hand.
Perhaps it’s to hold us back from the tempest wild;
Or maybe it’s just to caress us alike a mother does her child;
That’s when God uses His hand.
It can be gentle to hold to; it can be firm and direct;
Whether beckoning us to Him, or our errors to correct;
That’s when God uses His hand.
